Movie vs. Book

I have heard many times that the movie of some story was not as good as the novel and I have experienced that today. The story “Johnny Tremain” was an excellent creation which evidently reflected the author’s hard work. However, when I watched the movie I was rather disappointed.

The novel was full off details and the story was pretty long. There were a lot of little incidents which were not included in the movie. For example the fights between Johnny and Priscilla were not included in the movie. The parts where Johnny interacts with Lieutenant Stranger were not included either. I think the book was quite slow paced while everything in the movie was happening a bit too sudden. For example in the movie Johnny went to Mr. Lyte a bit too soon. Also the parts about Ms. Lavinia and Issanah were not included at all. I think the war came too soon in the movie while in the novel, war began after a lot of meetings amongst the Sons’s of Liberty. Also in the novel, Johnny‘s hand was burnt because Dove deliberately handed him a cracked crucible, however Dove did not even exist in the movie.

Although the movie and the novel were quite different in many ways, they were still similar in some. For example the speech made by Mr. James Otis was pretty much the same as was in the book. Also the part about Johnny blowing the whistle to signal the son’s for the start of the Boston tea party was the same. Other than that, the fact that Cilla Lapham’s testimony worked in winning Johnny’s case was the same in the book and in the movie.

Overall the novel was quite different than the book. I think I enjoyed the novel more than the movie because it had many small details and incidences which made the entire story more interesting and realistic.
